Well, this has been an eventful day. Within 24 hours, I've found out that our parents are still alive, and on top of that, King and Queen of the vampire world, which make me and River princesses. Oof. I need a nap.
After we escape from Academy headquarters, the building we were held hostage in, Jason loaded us onto a helicopter that was waiting about a quarter mile away from the Academy. How they didn't notice an enormous helicopter that belonged to their mortal enemy, I will never know.
After the copter took off was when the explaining started. "So what's going on, exactly?" River questioned.
Jason took a deep breath. "It's a really long story, but I guess we have time. Your dad was born into a long line of heirs for the Vampire Kingdom, which rules the whole vempire, the vampire empire. Then he met your mom, and she became queen. They had you guys, and they were so excited. But they forgot the rule."
"What rule?" I ask.
"According to the Vampire Code, once the firstborn Royal child turns 14, that child and every other Royal child is sent off to live on their own. If the firstborn survives past their 17th birthday, they are rescued and brought back to the palace to live the rest of their lives."
"That's crazy! Why would our parents completely abandon us to live on our own, in a ratty old shack, with no money left for us, making us fend for ourselves? Especially with Royal blood! Do they have any idea how many times we almost STARVED to death?" River screams.
"Calm down, Princ-"
"I will not calm down! I'm just hearing now that our parents lied to us our whole lives! Excuse me, but I think I have a right to be angry! I don't even know if I want to see them again." Rise crosses her arms in disgust, and let's out a huff of breath.
"I understand you're upset Ms. River, but you have to understand. Following the Vampire Code, especially as a Royal, is very important."
"More important than your own children?" River snaps
That shut Jason up, and it was quiet for the rest of the ride.
We landed about 3 hours later. The windows were shaded, so we couldn't see outside. "What about our things?" I asked Jason, just realizing that we hadn't brought any of our stuff with us except for River's backpack, which was taken by the Academy when they kidnapped us.
"Don't worry. It was brought here by some agents from the Kingdom. It's all here, but we can also get you anything you need otherwise."
I nod in acknowledgment, not feeling the need to say anything else.
As we step off the plane, I look around and gasp. The Kingdom looks like and old medieval castle, except modernized. "Woooaahh," River whispers.
After we climb down the stairs off the helicopter, we step on a moving sidewalk that brings us inside the massive front doors. Once we get inside, the building is divided into two hallways, one to the left of the entry room, and one to the right, which form the shape of a Y. At the end of these hallways are other giant rooms. I'm guessing there are more hallways, but I can't see that far.
Once we step off the moving sidewalk, we step up to a tiny baggage carousel that is spinning our things around and around. I guess they don't get many visitors. Me and River quickly grab our bags and await further instructions. "Now that you have your bags, let me show you to your rooms," Jason says curtly, gesturing us toward a staircase that I hadn't noticed before.
We start to climb it, and get off at the third floor. Jason starts to lead us down a long hallway with marble floors. The whole hallway is lined with doors that I'm guessing are other rooms reserved for other people. "So what exactly is the kingdom?" River asks, still shock about the happenings of the past day.
"The kingdom is a facility for young vampires to go. The kingdom will train them to control their powers and use them to the best of their abilities. You training starts tomorrow. There are many different parts to the kingdom, and it is separated by building. The building we are in right now is the dormitory, but there is also the school, the cafeteria, the training center, where you will go when your professors are teaching you to fight, and the library.you will be able to explore all of these places during your classes tomorrow. Right now, you must rest. You've had a long day. You have 4 hours to yourself, then I will come and take you to your parents."
At this, River lets out a scowl. She still hasn't gotten over the whole parent issue.
By this time, we have reached the end of the hallway. "These are your rooms," Jason says, gesturing to two rooms that are across the hallway from each other.
I see that there's a plaque above each of the rooms. 'Royal suite', it says. "Ooooh, fancy," I say in a light, playful tone.
"You think the plaque is fancy? wait until you see the inside," Jason laughs.
The anticipation is killing me. I grab the doorknob and turn it, slowly pushing the door open. I let out a gasp. "This is amazing!" I say, and I mean it.
The main room is huge. It circular, and looks like it has an area of about 300 square feet. Right in the middle is a queen bed with a sheer sky blue canopy drape over the bed frame. It sways in the breeze that's coming in through the open window, which, might I mention, has a window seat. I walk over to the bed and see that the comforter is exactly like mine from back home, except brand new. There are tons of throw pillows that. Ale the bed look like a giant pit of fluffy things. To my left is a spiral staircase that leads up to a huge loft that is furnished with a comfy leather couch, a 70-inch flat screen t.v and a ginormous popcorn maker. There's a pair of glass doors to my right that lead out to a grand balcony that looks out to the ocean. "I guess when they say Royal, they mean Royal," I breathe, walking back over to the door where River and Jason at standing.
River's room is exactly the same as mine, except her room is pink-themed and mine is blue. "All right, girls. I will leave you to have some alone time, get to know your rooms. If you need anything, I'm just a ring away. Buzz the intercom by the door, and I will come right awAy."
I didn't even notice the intercom before. "Sounds good to me," River says, and heads across the hall to her room.
Jason nods and exits, closing the door on his way out. I run over to my brand new bed and jump up, landing on the soft mattress and letting out a sigh. "This is the life," I say t myself. I roll over and fall asleep.
